02 Giu IED – Workshop “Educational games” – Master Design for children – April/May, 2025 – Rome
An exciting workshop concluded at the IED – Master Design for children headquarters in Rome, conducted by Irene Guerrieri in collaboration with the company Sassi Junior, which launched the product briefing. Some of the products born in classroom have already been appreciated by the company which is now adding to evaluate their development.
The course aimed to provide the basic tools of the Toy Designer profession, through which one learns to design and create an educational game at a prototype level, studying the design of its components, but also the educational objectives that distinguish the proposal. All this was achieved starting from a market analysis and a direct comparison with a manufacturing company in the sector that is invited by the teacher to launch the project brief.
The students were involved in the creation of a concept that meets the guidelines dictated by the project briefing received, and then move on to its integral design and creation, as well as the creation of functionality and usability tests. With particular attention to the world of education, the course explored the concrete needs of contemporary society in continuous evolution.
Throughout the process, the students were guided by the teacher through a consolidated working method.
During the lessons, various topics were explored, including: the analysis of shapes, the choice of language, narration, the contribution of logical-mathematical schemes, materials, safety regulations to be followed for the age target we are addressing. The theoretical phase was constantly accompanied by practical exercises.
